she was learning to love moments... |
I am an undergraduate art historian - obsessed with my field. I grew up on the sea, and it is a part of my soul. I feel the most at ease in a museum gallery, on the ocean or marina, or snuggled in my apartment with my love of 5 years, Josh. We cook and bake perpetually, and he makes me laugh until I cry. We love exploring and being foodies. --- I am a happy, happy girl. --- |
I hate to sound cliche…
But I am not much a fan of Valentines Day.
That being said, I looked at JP yesterday and said “Even though we are both anti-Valentine’s day, we would be disappointed if we didn’t have Valentines.”
He said - without looking over:
“I know.”
We have never been real participators - and when we were, it was just to have an answer when someone asked what we did — lame I know.
We have our own day - it is not our anniversary, a birthday — the day has no real significance except we celebrate each other, our lives together, unadulterated happiness on that day. We are the only two who know it - for we are the only two that care - society doesn’t pressure us — and when we go out we may very well be the only two in the room who just stare at each other and smile, and the calendar has little to do with it.
(We did, actually buy “valentines” for each other, because there is something sweet and simple in that — strangely enough, we got each other the same exact one)

Mondays and Wednesdays, I sleep in — until 8 am. I do work, take meetings, errands etc. I pack a lot into the morning , because I have class from 2-10.
Today JP woke up, made some breakfast and somewhere along the way completely distracted me. We just laughed at each other - played around, and were generally silly.
When I finally put a stop to the madness he said as he was putting on socks
“God, I have fun with you.”
It was nice to know that after 5 years, am totally raw and honest with this person and we actually delight in each other’s presence. Working at a relationship is NO easy feat,
but it is really worth it.
It really is the little things
Posted this last year, and I will post it again.
kunst-id asked: What do you do at MoMA? I'm an art history undergraduate too and I'm always curious to see where other people do with their degree :)
Well, I don’t have my degree yet. I am still a full-time student. But also I am a research assistant to an art historian and at MoMA I am in Painting and Sculpture doing curatorial research on the upcoming de Kooning retrospective.
